Our Team
Leadership: John Ortlund, Director of Emergency Response & Safety
John Ortlund brings more than 30 years of experience in the fire service and 25 years in private fire investigation.
John served the Park Ridge, Illinois Fire Department for three decades, rising to Battalion Chief and leading both the Training Division and the Fire Investigation Unit, where he served as team leader. His career includes extensive experience managing complex fire scenes, training fire personnel, and directing technical operations under high-risk conditions.
In the private sector, John has worked as a fire investigator for insurance carriers, product manufacturers, and law firms. He holds certifications as a Certified Fire Investigator (CFI) and Evidence Collection Technician (ECT) through the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI).
Today, as the Director of Emergency Response & Safety for Johler Emergency Response, John oversees emergency deployments, fire scene processing, evidence handling, and investigator support services. He continues to train fire departments, insurers, and legal professionals across the country and internationally.
